In partnership with our financial institution customers, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle funds housing that is affordable to families of modest means and individuals with special needs such as the elderly, disabled or mentally ill. Through its community lending programs, the Seattle Bank provides grants and loans to help financial institutions fund affordable housing and economic development initiatives in their communities. These developments include the construction or rehabilitation of multifamily rental housing, downpayment assistance and savings incentives to first-time homebuyers, and support for retail businesses that provide jobs in distressed communities.
Since 1990, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle and our customers have channeled nearly $1.4 billion through the Affordable Housing Program, Community Investment Program, Challenge Fund and Home$tart Savings Program, helping more than 45,500 people obtain housing they could afford and living-wage jobs.
